Open-Line of Communication & Protocols

Academics is a big part of any student’s life. Alone, students often succeed, but with the assistance of teachers and families working together, students can achieve anything.
There are four essential ingredients to building a healthy, open commuincation between school and families. These ingredients are the four P's: POSITIVE, PERSONALIZED, PROACTIVE, AND PARTNERSHIP.
My objective with communication is to do meet the following:
- MAKE POSITIVE PHONE CALLS AND/OR EMAILS
- CREATE BI-MONTHLY NEWSLETTERS
- MAINTAIN CLASS WEBSITE
- SEND EMAIL UPDATES
Should there ever come a time when you have a question, comment, and/or concern, please do not hesitate to call (408-867-3042 x303) or email me; please also follow the protocols below, and in the school handbook & directory. I welcome all feedback, good or bad, because it only makes me a better teacher for my students.
- Parents/Guardians should discuss the issue with their student(s).
- The student should talk to the teacher first.
- Then the parents/guardians contact the teacher.
- Parents/Guardians request a meeting with the teacher.
I will ALWAYS follow this protocol when responding to a parent/guardian:
- Respond to the parent/guardian within 24 hours if they contact the teacher.
- Suggest to the parent/guardian that the teacher will work first with the student(s) to solve concerns.
- Determine if the assistance of a counselor and/or administrator is needed; let that person know there is an issue.
Above all, my goal is to communicate in the most positive & upfront way not only to my students, but their parents/guardians as well.
MAKE-UPS & EXTRA CREDIT

MAKE-UPS: When student(s) are absent, and it is excused, they may complete a make-up assignment via my website to turn in for participation/attendancecredit. These assignments should take no longer than 10-15 minutes. One make-up assignment per day absent.
If you are gone for three days or more in a row, there are make-up assignments that can be done that will cover all days gone, rather than one for each day. Or, if you are gone for an extra long period of time, come and talk to me to discuss a plan of action.
NOTE: EXCUSED ABSENCES ARE CONSIDERED THE FOLLOWING: BEING SICK, DOCTOR'S APPOINTMENT, OR FAMILY EMERGENCY.
EXTRA CREDIT: Learning that extends beyond the standards can be enriching and stimulating for students, but can only be offered once all assignments are completed. My requirement is that all regularly assigned work must be completed first before any extra credit is attempted.
